All of a sudden, but at the end not surprisingly, Mitsubishi Gas Chemical (MGC) has published a statement according to which it will suspend the construction of its new European mXDA plant for a not specified period of time. While in the announcement MGC mentions delays in construction and rising costs as reasons in my opinion the also claimed changes in business environment is the core problem of this investment. Due to the somewhat questionable mXDA sales policy of MGC in the past, in the last few years more competition for this polyamine has arisen, especially in China. E.g. it is said, that Wanhua will produce mXDA sooner or later, too. Together with the economic difficulties in Europe at least for me it is not likely, that MGC will restart construction in the next five years.
